As scale increases, systems (life) can **invest** energy to suppress local noise (Free Energy Principle); so $\mu$ does not stay flat but **rises** in the biological regime. This is an **RST application** (our model of $\eta_{\mathrm{eff}}(\ell)$ with a life boost), not an established fact; the script and note live here under **further applications**. --- ## I. Mapping | Scale | Regime | RST reading | |:---|:---|:---| | Planck, atomic, molecular | Passive | Substrate delivers $\mu(\eta,n)$ with environmental $\eta$; no active inference. | | Cellular, organism | Active | Life minimises prediction error (Friston) → lowers effective $N$ → raises $\eta_{\mathrm{eff}}$ → higher $\mu$. Same curve $\mu(\eta,n)$, but $\eta$ is **actively** raised. | The script **[[Grand Map - Code]]** (`rst_grand_map_complexity_scale.py`) implements a smooth model: $\eta_{\mathrm{eff}}(\ell) = \eta_{\mathrm{passive}} \times (1 + \mathrm{life\_boost} \times \mathrm{sigmoid}(\ell))$ so that at large $\ell$ (cellular, organism) $\mu$ rises. Physical anchors: Planck, Bohr, molecule, cell, organism (SI lengths). --- ## II. Why this is in further applications - **Knowledge** (expanded theory/knowledge/) = established results only; we don't make knowledge up. - The **complexity-scale plot** is our **RST synthesis** (a model of how $\eta$ varies with scale), so it belongs in **further applications** with its script in this folder. - The **knowledge index** and Total ontology text link *to* this application for the plot; they don't host the script. --- ## Links - **Code:** [[Grand Map - Code]] - **Knowledge index (Total ontology):** [[expanded theory/knowledge/Knowledge index]] - **Friston (established fact):** [[expanded theory/knowledge/Agents minimize the difference between model and sensation]] - **Roadmap:** [[../../Applications Roadmap]]
